"The energy they bring to the music – just listen to the polka La De Mariano Romero, for instance – is almost exhausting in itself, and even the studio recording becomes an irresistible invitation to get up and dance. But it’s a powerful reminder that so much of this was dance music; they’re bringing it back to its roots. " -fRoots UK

Voy a contarles un corrido muy mentado De lo que pasa allá en la hacienda de La Flor La triste historia de un ranchero enamorado Que fue borracho, parrandero y jugador I’m going to recite a well-known corrido Something that happened in a village called La Flor The sad story of a small-town don Juan Who loved to drink and party, and was good at cards. Juan se llamaba y lo apodaban Charrasqueado Era valiente y arriesgado en el amor A las mujeres más bonitas se llevaba En esos campos no dejaba ni una flor His name was Juan and they nicknamed him for a scar on his cheek He was risky and self-assured when it came to romance He sharpened his skills on the most beautiful women around He couldn’t pass a field without picking each flower Un día domingo en que se estaba emborrachando A la cantina le corrieron a avisar “Cuídate Juan que ya por ahí te andan buscando Son muchos hombres, no te vayan a matar.” One Sunday afternoon as he was getting drunk They came running to the cantina “Watch out Juan--they’re looking for you A group of many men has gathered--we don’t want anything bad to happen” No tuvo tiempo de montar en su caballo Pistola en mano se le echaron de a montón “Estoy borracho” les gritaba “Y soy buen gallo” Cuando una bala atravesó su corazón. He didn’t even have time to get on his horse Pistols in hands, they set upon him all together “I’m drunk,” he was hollering at them, “and I can take you all!” when a bullet peirced his heart Creció la milpa con la lluvia en el potrero Y las palomas van volando al pedregal Bonitos toros llevan hoy al matadero Qué buen caballo va montando el caporal The corn is tall now with the rains that came And the doves are flying off into their hills Today there are some nice bulls being led to slaughter What a beautiful horse the foreman is riding Ya las campanas del santuario están doblando Todos los fieles se dirigen a rezar Y por la sierra los rancheros van bajando A un hombre muerto que lo llevan a enterrar The bells of the old mission church are tolling And all the faithful lower their faces in prayer Up in the hills men from the village Are carrying down a body to be buried En una choza muy humilde llora un niño Y las mujeres se aconsejan y se van Solo su madre lo aconsuela con cariño Mirando al cielo llora y reza por su Juan In a humble shack a child is crying The women come and go, trading advice Only his mother comforts him with affection Looking to the sky she cries and prays for her little Juan Aquí acabo de cantar este corrido De Juan ranchero, Charrasqueado y burlador Que se creyó de las mujeres consentido Que fue borracho, parrandero y jugador. That’s where I finish singing this corrido About Juan from the country, with his scar and smirk Who fancied himself the ladies’ favorite Who loved to drink and party, and was good at cards.

El Lagartijo 02:34
Estaba la lagartija arriba de un calderón El lagartijo de llega luego le trata de amor The lady lizard was up above a calderón Here comes the guy lizard and starts coming on to her Estaba la lagartija arriba de un gorongoro El lagartijo de llega “Ya te enseñaré mi modo” The lady lizard was in the branches of a tree Here comes the guy lizard and he’s all: “Let me show you how I do things.” Estaba la lagartija en una tierra de bueyes El lagartijo de llega “Ya te enseñare mi leyes” The lady lizard was in a land of oxen Here comes the guy lizard and he’s all “Let me show you how it is with me.”

Aunque me pase la vida llorando, Tan solo llorando, no vuelvo contigo. Aunque me digas que fue el destino, Quien tuvo la culpa no vuelvo contigo. Though I may spend my life in tears, And only in tears, I still won't come back to you. Though you may say that it was only fate That we have to blame, I won't come back to you. Aunque regreses pidiendo mi olvido, Por todo el martirio que diste a mi vida, Aunque se acaben mis noches de luna Y viva entre brumas, no vuelvo contigo. Though you may come back asking for me to forget All the martyrdom your brought to my life, Though my moonlit nights may end, And I may come to live in mists and shadows, I won't come back to you. Para qué quiero estar a tu lado, Si estando contigo mi vida no es vida, Dicen que nunca, nunca seremos felices Aunque tú me quieras, aunque yo te quiero. Why would I want to be by your side, If being with you means my life isn't a life? They say that we never, never would be happy Though you may love me, though I may love you. Por eso quiero que entiendas mi canto Contigo no vuelvo, no vuelvo contigo. Aunque yo sé que tu sufres la ausencia Igual que yo sufro no vuelvo contigo. That's why I want you to understand my song I'm not coming back, I won't come back to you. Though I know that the absence hurts you As much as it hurts me, I won't come back to you.

El Mudo 02:22
Un policía que era mudo a la cárcel se llevó a dos jóvenes inquietos que en el parque se encontró A police officer that was mute one day locked up in the jail two disorderly kids from the park and he went to set their bail Al saber esta noticia los padres fueron a ver al juez y junto con periodistas le preguntaron que como fue Mandaron traer al mudo Oiga usted lo que yo escuché Upon hearing of this news The parents went to the judge and cried What the heck is going on? With local reporters at their side They sent for the unintelligible police officer This is what he testified ¿Por qué los detuvo? ¿Que estaban haciendo? ¿Por qué los llevastes? ¿Cuál es el delito? Why were they arrested? [unintelligible answer] What were they doing? [unintelligible answer] Why did you detain them? [unintelligible answer] What are the charges? [unintelligible answer] Que se cuiden todos - ahí viene el mudo esos estudiantes - ahí viene el mudo y esos periodistas - ahí viene el mudo esos locutores - ahí viene el mudo esos rebeldones - ahí viene el mudo esos norteñones - ahí viene el mudo Watch out everbody, here comes the unintelligible officer! Watch out students, here he comes. Watch out journalists, here he comes Watch out media people, here he comes Watch out rebellious youth, here he comes Watch out norteños, here he comes.

El Ausente 03:10
Ausente de mí estarás Pero no de mi memoria Pero no de mi memoria Ausente de mí estarás (then response repeats this) Tu bien lo comprenderás Que para mi es una gloria Que para mi es una gloria Ausente te quiero más You may be gone from my life But you are always on my mind You are always on my mind Though you may be gone from my life You'll understand well What for me is a wonder What for me is a wonder: Even though you're not here, my love for you grows even stronger Que léjos me considero De aquel angel soberano De aquel angel soberano Que léjos me considero Quien pudiera dar un vuelo Y también darle la mano Y también darle la mano A aquel adorado cielo I find myself so far away So bound by earthly limitations So bound by earthly limitations I find myself so far away Far from being the sovereign angel Who could fly to the aid Who could fly to the aid Of my beloved heaven Estoy dormido y despierto Me siento en la cama y lloro Me siento en la cama y lloro Estoy dormido y despierto Es que soñe que había muerto Esa mujer que yo adoro Esa mujer que yo adoro Ojalá que no sea cierto I wake from a sleep I sit up in my bed in tears I sit up in my bed in tears I wake from a sleep I dreamed that she had died- The woman that I worship The woman that I worship Please let it not be true

Julia 05:16
Soñé yo con tu amor Como se sueña en Diós En tus ojos hallé La respuesta a mi pasión I dreamed of your love Like one dreams of God In your eyes I found The answer to my passion Al despertar mi embelezo de amor De aquel sueño sacrosanto, mi bien Juro nadie te amó Como te adoro yo a tí Upon waking my flowering love From that sacred dream I can swear no one has loved you The way I worship you now Si es tormento vivir sin tu amor Y el amarte un eterno dolor Julia mía, yo quiero regar Con mis lágrimas tu corazón If it's torture to live without your love And loving you is endless suffering My Julia, at least may my tears Comfort the thirst of your heart Si soñando me has hecho llorar Si despierto me has hecho sufrir Si esto es vida yo quiero soñar Si esto es muerto yo quiero morir If in dreams you leave me crying And waking you fill me with suffering If this is life, I will gladly go on dreaming If this is death, I am ready to die

La Azucena 03:31
Es bonita la Azucena, la Rosa y el Fandanguito No he sentido cosa buena que los dulces besitos Que me diera esa morena La Azucena, la Rosa, and el Fandanguito are beautiful Huapangos But nothing is quite as good As the sweet kisses from that woman Yo soñe que te iba a besar Pero tú desapareces al momento de acercar Tuve que dormir tres veces para volverte a soñar I dreamed I was about to kiss you But right as I leaned in, you disappeared I had to fall asleep three times Until I could dream of you again Soy como la hierba buena Que por dondequiera trasciendo Yo le digo a mi morena Que cuando me estoy muriendo que me cante la Azucena Para irme divertiendo I'm like a sprig of mint Growing like a weed wherever I tell my woman that when I'm getting ready to die To start singing "La Azucena" So I can go out in style

about

Lone Piñon's third studio album, "Dále Vuelo", spans several periods in the band's musical development and includes music honed over hundreds of live performances across the country. Each track represents a different genre of regional music that the band has explored in the years since the 2016 release of "Días Felices." These include styles from New Mexico, Texas, Central Mexico, and notably the first modern digital recordings of the twin-fiddle/bajo quinto-driven Borderland pasodoble tradition.

In addition to the core members of Lone Piñon, "Dále Vuelo" features performances from long-time collaborators Leticia Gonzales (violin) and Greg Glassman (guitars, jarana huasteca), as well as contributions by guest artists Rafael Herrera (percussion), Joanna Alvarez-Reyes (vihuela), Ryan Little (steel guitar), Lia Martinez (vocals), Shae Fiol (vocals), and Karina Wilson (cello).

Recorded at Fw Studios by Dennis Javier Jasso in 2017-18, in Santa Fe, NM. For release March 1, 2019.
