This guitar tune was composed by Henry Ortiz, of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Henry Ortiz ran a recording studio and made one of the records of Gregorio Ruiz, who he accompanied on guitar. His musicianship bridged the old style of New Mexico music represented on this album with the new, guitar-based style that became popular in his generation and is still popular today. He played the new ranchera style with his family band, but incorporated many chotises and valses in their repertoire as instrumental electric guitar tunes.

Our interpretation with two acoustic guitars is inspired by the music Noah grew up with in the North Valley of Albuquerque. Songs and instrumental guitar tunes like this were the soundtrack of the community. They still evoke the relaxed feeling of musicians sitting together and jamming on the ditchbank, kicking back for a few tunes under a shade tree while an irrigated alfalfa field soaks with water, or the sounds of neighbors coming together for a matanza in the first cold days of winter.
